303 Gallery is pleased to present within hours we would be in the middle of nowhere, including work by: Doug Aitken, Laylah Ali, Anne Chu, Inka Essenhigh, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Maureen Gallace, Tim Gardner, Rodney Graham, Karen Kilimnik, Liz Larner, Kristin Oppenheim, Collier Schorr, Stephen Shore and Sue Williams.

For the occasion of this exhibition Karen Kilimnik has reinstalled her 1992 wall work “Helter Skelter” in which her painted texts recall the demise of the Charles Manson Family. Kilimnik creates a sense of eerie reminiscence that is complimented by Kristin Oppenheim’s 1992 sound piece titled “Shake Me”, in which the artist’s soothing chant repeatedly envelopes and releases the viewer from a created sensory space.

Four gouaches by Liz Larner are on view in which three colors are variously employed for different spatial effects. Collier Schorr presents a series of pages from Andrew Wyeth’s Helga, with her own photographs and writings added. Laylah Ali’s ink and watercolor pencil drawing is expressive of the same ideas specifically depicted in her exacting paintings. This exhibit also features works on paper by Anne Chu, Inka Essenhigh, Maureen Gallace, Tim Gardner, and Rodney Graham. Doug Aitken presents a unique photo collage.

There are numerous early Sue Williams works included in this exhibition that mark her departure point for abstraction. Additionally, Hans-Peter Feldmann exhibits a new piece – a camera painted in camouflage and seemingly ready for action, and a ransom note directed at the world that states “Art must be able to take the risk to be bad”.
