Ceal Floyer’s practice addresses notions of the uncanny, the humorous, and the absurd through deceptively simple means, yet to deeply nuanced effect. She often plays with the conceptual distance between recognizable everyday objects and their linguistic counterparts, as well as other clever aspects of common daily associations. Trash is a silent projection of a still image of a trash bin adopted from the OSX operating system for Mac. As an installation the existence of Trash is governed by the physical space it inhabits, while as a projection it redefines the space of the gallery as two-dimensional cyberspace.
